The World Series of Poker (WSOP) isn't the only game in town this summer in Las Vegas. At the Wynn, there's another major series taking place that is drawing in massive fields and smashing guaranteed prize pools.
Through the first few weeks of the Wynn Summer Classic, which guarantees at least $37 in prize money to be awarded between May 22 to July 17, some big name poker players such as Tony Miles, Andreas Froehli, and Uri Reichenstein have captured those iconic Wynn replica trophies. And the biggest events at the luxurious Las Vegas Strip casino are still on the horizon.
The biggest event of the series is the Wynn Summer Championship, a $10,400 buy-in no-limit hold'em event with $10 million guaranteed starting June 28. There will be three Day 1 starting flights, one per day through June 30, followed by Day 2 on July 1.
Former Main Even Runner Up Doing Big Things at Wynn
Miles, who won $5 million as the runner-up to John Cynn at the 2018 WSOP Main Event, earned a Wynn trophy in a $1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo event, and received $34,664 on June 7. He defeated a field of 131 entrants to scoop the largest prize of the $128,380, surpassing the $100,000 guarantee.
The near-world champ, who hails from Jacksonville, defeated George Karvounis ($21,401) heads up to finish off the tournament. Claas Stoob took third place for $14,956, while Xavier Ochangco finished in fourth place for $11,105.
Miles now has over $5.4 million in live tournament cashes, according to The Hendon Mob.
Reichenstein Adds to Stellar Resume
Reichenstein, the second winningest live tournament player from Israel, had a recent victory at the Wynn Summer Classic. He conquered a $1,100 buy-in no-limit hold'em event on June 9 for $77,878, bringing his career cashes to nearly $4.6 million.
The tournament the Israeli won at Wynn had a $250,000 guarantee, a number that was easily surpassed with 413 entrants and $404,740 in the pot. In second place was Mark Lesitsky, who earned $52,106 for his efforts, and Francisco Vazquez Ulman claimed the $39,887 third place prize.
This is event has been par for the course at the 2024 Wynn Summer Classic, with a large guaranteed prize pool that was easily surpassed.
Poker Coach Takes it Down
Froehli, a poker player who resides in Austria but is from Switzerland, is another notable who has booked a win at the Wynn already this summer. The poker coach won a $1,100 Big O tournament on May 27. Once again, the guarantee, $50,000 in this case, was smashed with $108,640 in the pot from 112 players.
The champion received a $30,002 payout, while three players took an even second place chop of $14,577. Froehli, an active member of Poker Twitter (X now), now has $580,000 in The Hendon Mob results. He also has a YouTube channel and previously hosted a podcast that featured some prominent poker guests.
