Negreanu Misreads Nanos; Now the Short Stack
Daniel Negreanu made it 240,000 from the button and Konstantinos Nanos called out of the big blind to see a flop, which he checked. Negreanu bet 300,000, and Nanos called it.
They both checked the turn and got to see a river for free. And here is where it gets interesting. Nanos bet out 680,000, and there commenced a most impressive dwell from Negreanu.
Eventually he announced: "This thing in my gut is telling me I should call you." We hope that he is not suffering from a Aliens-type parasite. But whatever the thing in his gut told him, Negreanu did not yet call. Instead, he talked. Things that he said included:
"I'm gonna feel dumb about this one."
"Nine-ten?"
"Six?"
None of this elicited much of a reaction from Nanos.
Eventually Negreanu declared, "Nine-ten or nada. So based on that read, I guess I'm supposed to pay it."
He called, and Nanos turned over for a straight. Negreanu mucked, and dropped right down to a million or so.
