Melogno Shoves the River on Vaitiekunas in Massive Pot

Pablo Melogno bet 450,000 from the button on a flop of 8?J?2? and Paulius Vaitiekunas raised to 1,125,000 under the gun. Melogno called and the 5? fell on the turn.

Vaitiekunas then bet 950,000 and Melogno again called. The river was the 7? and Vaitiekunas bet 2,150,000. Melogno then moved all in and Vaitiekunas, with around 2,000,000 remaining, shook his head before throwing his cards into the muck.

Up at the feature table, a player raised to 240,000 under the gun with the K?Q? and Justin Carey called from the button with the K?J?.

Daniel Negreanu then three-bet jammed from the big blind for 1.03 million and the original raiser folded. Carey, who was getting 2:1 on his money, thought for a bit before calling.

“If you have two overs you’re in good shape,” Negreanu shared.

“Come on, baby, let me win a flip one time,” Negreanu said hopefully. Unfortunately for him, the proverbial coin didn’t come down in his favor as the 9?J?4? flop paired Carey’s jack.

However, the Q? made things interesting as Negreanu picked up an open-ended straight draw. Unfortunately for the GGPoker Ambassador, the 6? river was a brick and his Super Main Event came to an end.

“I had no fun today at any point from the start … so tilt,” Negreanu lamented. He finished in 170th place for $67,300.

The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise, which is taking place on Paradise Island in The Bahamas, got off to a big start with the $500,000 buy-in Triton Million, which marked the WSOP's first partnership with Triton Poker.

It was a unique tournament that paired an invitee with a poker pro – each putting up a $500,000 buy-in – and then competing in respective fields on Day 1 before combining on Day 2. The tournament, which was being live reported by PokerNews, featured 74 players (37 pairs) and much to our surprise saw two players get their chips all in on the very first hand of the tournament.

It was a big hand, but just one captured by the PokerNews Live Reporting Team. Here is a look at five other either big or game-changing hands from the Triton Million.

Filatov pulled out his phone to record as the dealer went to the 8?8?7? flop. "Wrong ones," Filatov said pointing at the spades instead of the clubs. The 10? turn and 7? river were no help as Filatov headed to the exit and Foxen continued to add to his stack.

Weissman Leaves Mokri Speechless

Kayhan Mokri raised to 250,000 from the cutoff and was called by Joey Weissman and Mustapha Kanit in the blinds. The flop came 9?3?2? and the action checked to Mokri who bet 300,000. Weissman check-raised to 775,000 which got Kanit to fold but Mokri still called.

The turn was the 6? and Weissman announced all in as the bigger stack. Mokri had roughly 2,200,000 in front of him as he dipped into the tank for around two minutes. After using a few time banks, Mokri finally let his hand go and surprisingly had nothing to say.

Jeff Platt was standing by the table preparing to interview Jeremy Dan when Dan got involved in a pot with Daniel Kyosev, putting his last 2,200,000 in the middle from the cutoff as Kyosev called in middle position.

After the hand, Platt asked Dan about sweating out that hand. "The sweat was seeing tens and having you breathing down my neck, but I guess it wasn't. The Jeff Platt curse is over," Dan declared.

Alex Keating had 1,275,000 across the line from the small blind and was faced with another raise of 3,000,000 from Chris Klodnicki in the cutoff. After giving it some thought, he made the call.

"Now you're chip leader," Keating said with a chuckle as the dealer sent the pot the other way.
