Jacob Powers Soars Into Seven Figures to End Day 2c in the $3,500 Main Event
It was another short day at the tables for players in Day 2c of the $3,500 Main Event at the 2023 Wynn Millions. After just four 90-minute levels, a field of 156 players was dwindled down to 68 who advanced to Day 3 tomorrow which begins at 12 p.m. local time. They will be joining the 89 players from Day 2ab for the first time as the money bubble approaches.
It was a back-and-forth day for the chip leaders who traded throughout the day but in the end, it was Jacob Powers who surged to the top of the leaderboard with a last-minute elimination of Irene Carey. Powers soared into the chip lead and will return for Day 3 as the only player with a seven-figure stack, bringing 1,082,000 chips back to the table. Powers started the day as one of the chip leaders but made sure he finished in the top spot.
Approaching the $1,000,000 mark on The Hendon Mob, Powers is recently coming off his career-high score of $500,000 for a third-place finish at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship. A strong finish here over the coming days could push Powers over that milestone and he has put himself in the best position to do just that.
Giving him a run for his money throughout the day was Lenard Adams who bagged up an equally impressive 977,000 chips. Adams also entered the day as one of the big stacks and his chips continued to grow with each passing level. One of his biggest pots came when he eliminated the 2014 WSOP Main Event champion Martin Jacobson at the halfway point. Adams rivered a straight against Jacobson's two pair when all of the money went in the middle.
Speaking of chip leaders, Rick Biever entered Day 2c as the sole chip leader and put it in cruise control, finishing the day with a very similar stack to what he started with. Biever bagged up a stack of 484,000 chips and will still be in a good position to reach the money when the action resumes on Day 3.
The field of 156 players came into the day knowing they would be playing just four levels to ensure the money would be reached on Day 3. That number started dropping rather quickly in the opening level and continued to do so throughout the day. Some of the notables to bow out included Sean Winter, Landon Tice, Michael Wang, Cherish Andrews, Dylan Linde, and Joshua Faris.
There were still many familiar faces who advanced to Day 3 including Markus Gonsalves (680,000) who is just coming off a winning session in the Million Dollar Cash Game featured on No Gamble No Future. Others like Kristen Deardorff (378,000), JC Tran (334,000), Kathy Liebert (207,000), Gal Yifrach (167,000), and Lily Kiletto (157,000) will all be returning to fight for the money tomorrow.
The action will get back underway at 12 p.m. noon local time with the blinds resuming on level 15 at 3,000/6,000 and a 6,000 big blind ante. The levels will continue to be 90 minutes in length with a 15-minute break after each level. There are five levels scheduled for Day 3 with no dinner break and play is expected to finish around 9 p.m. depending on how long the money bubble takes.
