The 2022 WSOP Main Event Kicks Off With 900 players; Trevino Leads
The tournament everyone has been waiting for, Event #70: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event World Championship finally shuffled up and dealt on Day 34 of the 2022 WSOP. Players piled into the tournament area in droves, with Day 1a attracting 900 players through the doors. After five levels of action, only 631 of those players had chips requiring bagging and tagging.
Popular vlogger Cedrric Trevino finds himself at the top of the Day 1a chip counts with 317,800 betting tokens. Trevino soared to the chip counts' summit after improving to a set of kings on the river to crack his unfortunate opponent's pocket aces. Trevino will be hoping he has not used up all his luck as this potentially record-breaking tournament progresses.
It was a case of beginner's luck for Wesley Fei, a cryptocurrency investor and regular on the Hustler Live cash game stream. Fei only started playing poker six months ago and chose the 2022 WSOP Main Event as his first-ever tournament. What a story it would be if Fei went all the way and took this event down.
The list of Day 1 survivors is littered with stellar names and familiar faces. Chanracy Khun (267,800), and Andrew Moreno (238,200) bagged up top ten stacks. While others including Dylan Linde (166,600), Kevin Gerhart (149,900), Erick Lindgren (125,400), Freddy Deeb (122,200), Daniel Alaei (118,600), and Brian Rast (114,900) all ended Day 1a with a six-figure stack.
Past WSOP Main Event champions Ryan Riess (139,900), Qui Nguyen (74,400), John Cynn (65,000), and Martin Jacobson (64,300) each punched their Day 2ab tickets.
We have to give a special mention to Eric Goldstein who bagged up 91,700 chips. For those of you who are not aware, Goldstein won his 2022 WSOP Main Event seat while he was asleep. Goldstein entered a $80 buy-in all-in satellite on WSOP.com but fell asleep. He awoke to discover he'd secured the satellite's only seat!
